AUSTIN -- Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and Speaker Joe Straus (San Antonio) today announced the appointment of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) 2011 Texas Host Committee.
NCSL is a bipartisan organization serving the legislators and staff of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues. The 2011 Legislative Summit will be held in San Antonio, August 8-11, 2011, bringing together nearly 6,000 state legislators, legislative staff, and private sector delegates from across the United States.
“Texans are excited to host the annual meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures in San Antonio next summer, and I’m certain this group of outstanding Texas legislators will help welcome our guests and ensure a very successful conference. I think it will be a great opportunity to showcase our state and its culture, heritage, and traditions to lawmakers from around the country," said Lt. Governor Dewhurst.
Lt. Governor Dewhurst has appointed the following senators as NCSL host committee members:
Senator Leticia Van de Putte (San Antonio), Chair
Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. (Brownsville)
Senator Dan Patrick (Houston)
Senator Kel Seliger (Amarillo)
Senator Royce West (Dallas)

This event is a unique opportunity to introduce the best that Texas has to offer, and to bring together legislators to discuss the most important issues facing our respective states and our country. I am pleased to designate our welcoming House members as hosts for the 2011 NCSL Legislative Summit," said Speaker Straus.
Speaker Straus has appointed the following representatives as NCSL host committee members:
Representative Ruth Jones-McClendon (San Antonio), Chair
Representative Carol Alvarado (Houston)
Representative Dan Branch (Dallas)
Representative Dan Flynn (Van)
Representative Charlie Geren (Fort Worth)
Mark Bell has been named director of the NCSL 2011 Texas Host Committee. In the coming weeks, a San Antonio Business Council will be selected to work in conjunction with the host committees on issues specific to the NCSL 2011 Legislative Summit.
