June 14, 2010 Chuck Carlton We should know one way or another by Friday how many Big 12 teams will become members of thePac-10 . All five potential candidates (Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State) are facing staggered deadlines from the Pac-10 to make a decision, a source familiar with the process confirmed. The latest deadline: Friday for A&M. Of course, by then the Aggies could be headed for the Southeast Conference. Texas and Texas Tech lead off with board of regents meetings on Tuesday. But neither may have an immediate decision. Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated smartly tracked down State Rep. Dan Branch (R-Dallas), who will chair a meeting of the Texas House higher education committee on Wednesday. Branch offered a bit of warning in the interview not to upstage his committee's big moment. "To make a final decision before Wednesday," Branch said, "would not be wise."
