DALLAS, TX - After days of rumors and the defection of two teams, officials with the University of Texas are set to announce plans to stick with the Big 12 conference. The announcement comes amid speculation the decision will mean a $25 million dollar television network deal for the university.

It is the news legions of Texas fans have been waiting to hear. Many feared the college realignment could upset decades-old rivalries.

"It is more fun to play the teams where there is that fierce rivalry," Carrie Hoffman, a UT Law School graduate said.

The season ticket holder hoped Texas would remain in the Big 12 conference, instead of being lured away by a deal from the Pac-10 conference.

"It just wouldn't be as much fun playing a team like Wyoming, where there is no history."

The move comes amid calls for more transparency for taxpayers who some fear may have to foot the bill if colleges make the wrong choice.

"When we are talking about public institutions where there are big dollars at play," Dallas State Representative, Dan Branch, said.

Branch, who is chairman of the Higher Learning Committee, wants the president's of key Texas institutions to testify at a hearing Wednesday to allow the public to know more about the decisions being made.

"We don't want a combination that somehow hurts Texas or hurts our revenue. I think tradition between those schools shouldn't be given up for more money."

But, Texas fans may have to sacrifice. Conference rules require 12 teams to hold a championship and with only 12 members, the playoff games may be eliminated. There could be a waiver granted that would allow for a championship.
